Beaches

Rocky Point is situated in a quiet, secluded cove, where local fishermen keep their boats and bring in fresh fish several times a week. There are small tide pools to explore, many shells washed up on the beach, and a vast expanse of rock where you can view broad coastal vistas in either direction and have a close-up experience of powerful wave action.

yoga in sri lanka To the west of us is a beautiful bay and beach that we call Silent Beach. This is our favorite swimming place, where you can have a long swim across the bay or stay within a protected area. The water is a beautiful aqua, and you can see many fish, including large schools of silver flashing beneath you. We swim here almost every morning after ashtanga practice, as a great way to balance the yoga. Some people do boogie boarding here when the waves are up. And a couple beaches to the west of here is a local surf spot.

On the other side of Rocky Point is Palm Beach, named for the resort located there. It is a fun place to play in the sand, with Frisbee, volleyball and local cricket games. The water is shallow for quite a ways out, and this beach is a good afternoon place for catching waves on boogie boards or body surfing.

All the beaches are white sand, with many shells, and lined with coconut palms. There are few people on any of the beaches, which makes them very nice for walking, reading, and relaxing.
